Annual Report 2002/2003
Highlights of the Year |
The past two years have
generated great need in our community. We have done --
and will continue to do -- all we can to help nonprofit
organizations survive and address the quality of life
here in Boulder County. Through our grants this past year,
we have helped people find shelter, food, and medical
and dental care. We have helped get troubled teens back
on track through wilderness and after-school programs,
and access to art and music. We have helped people discover
Shakespeare, pottery and puppet shows. We have helped
fund educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged
kids, as well as adults trying to improve themselves.
We have helped neigbors build their neighborhoods into
communities. With the help of generous donors, we awarded
$1.7 million, as of November 2003, in
grants to over 350 nonprofits, working in the arts,
education, the environment, civic engagement, and health
and human services.
We began our campaign to build our Community
Trust Fund, the Foundation's most responsive permanent
endowment fund. We received many important gifts into
the Community Trust in 2003, including a significant seed
gift from two local entrepreneurs, Amy Batchelor and Brad
Feld. Another innovative gift to the Trust included a
donation of 1 percent ownership of a developing technology
company. Both donors wanted their gifts to challenge the
creativity and generosity of our community.
We established The
Community Foundation's Legacy Society, to honor and
recognize those who have included the Foundation in their
estate plans. We successfully recognized 42 charter members.
We continued our work on our projects and programs:
