Pine
Cone Funds (through 2004)
Pine Cone Funds were established
as an option for families who would have liked to
create a legacy for themselves but were not in a
position to set aside the $10,000 minimum required
to establish a fund at one time.
The donors contributed $1000 a year to a personal
account, which The Community Foundation invested
for them. The Foundation reinvested all interest,
dividends and other earnings, and waived its fee
until the fund reached the donor advised minimum
level, so the "Pine Cones" would grow
more rapidly.
Once the fund reached $10,000, the donors began
to direct the interest earnings into the community,
to fund the issues and groups they cared about.
Ski-a-Thon
(2003)
The Community Foundation
and the Eldora Mountain Resort co-sponsored a fundraiser
for The
Catalog for Giving, 1st edition.
Teens
Giving 10 (1999-2002) Teens
Giving 10 began as a pilot program in 1999, to promote
philanthropy in Boulder County youth. It brought
together a group of high school students to distribute
$10,000 in grants. The teens discussed community
needs, agreed on focus areas, considered proposals,
conducted site visits, and made wise recommendations
on allocating the funds. The focus of their funding
was teen homelessness. Teens Giving 10 made its
first grants to Attention Homes, The Inn Between
in Longmont, and People's Clinic.
Vision
of Giving (2003)
The Culture of Giving sponsored this first "The
Vision of Giving" art contest. They invited
middle and high school age students to participate.
1st, 2nd,and 3rd place awards ($500, $300 &
$200) were given in both the Middle School and
the High School categories, with half of each
award to be donated to a nonprofit organization
of the winner’s choice.
