Ageism and Abuse In Later Life

Aug 13 2008 - 6:00pm
Aug 13 2008 - 7:15pm
Description of Event
About the Event:
Ageism and Abuse In Later Life Wednesday, August 13, 2008 American society has been described as maintaining a stereotypical and often negative perception of older adults that is readily apparent in such areas as language, media, and humor. In understanding abuse in later life we must start by examining our ageist attitudes and how elder abuse is a social justice issue, along with all other "isms" that oppress, discriminate against and marginalize others. This seminar introduces how the concept of Ageism is closely tied with abuse in later life. Presented by Tsunemi Maehara Rooney, Counseling Program Director at SPAN. SPAN and the Immigration Debate
