Development Coordinator

The Denver Indian Family Resource Center (DIFRC) has an immediate opening for a Development Coordinator to work with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to implement a comprehensive and  long-term fundraising plan as described below.  We are seeking a dynamic individual with a strong background in all areas of fundraising, who has strong writing skills, who is passionate about American Indian issues, excels at building relationships, and who wants to grow along with a thriving organization.  

BACKGROUND:
DIFRC’s mission is to strengthen vulnerable American Indian children and families through collaborative and culturally responsive services.
DIFRC successfully addresses an historical and current problem within the American Indian population—over-representation in the child-welfare system, and adoption of Indian children by non-Indian families. Formed with a grant from Casey Family Programs, DIFRC sponsors a variety of programs both based on best practices and embedding traditional Indian values. These programs include: Family Support and Preservation Services, Family Reunification Services, Indian Child Welfare Act Advocacy, Youth in Transition, and Youth Programs.
DIFRC has succeeded in diversifying its funding to encompass broader foundation support, government grants, individual donors, and earned income.  DIFRC has a comprehensive fundraising plan that will guide the development coordinator in working with the organization. The plan was created in a consensus-building process with the board, staff and other stakeholders. It includes specific plans for various fundraising strategies, including individual donor development, communications and marketing, and grantseeking from government and foundation sources for child welfare and related services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key responsibilities will include:
* Updating, strengthening and implementing strategies in the fund development plan
* Working with the executive director to advance the development office, infrastructure and systems
* Implementing a comprehensive database management and grant tracking system
* Serving as a liaison with board and staff on all fund development activities
* Writing and tracking grant proposals
* Assisting with public and media relations for DIFRC
* Planning and executing direct mail campaigns
* Assisting board, staff and volunteers in coordinating special events
* Support the fundraising committee, board members and the executive director, in cultivating major 
    donors by conducting prospect research, scheduling appointments and assisting with follow-up

* Representing DIFRC in community functions and activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND TALENTS REQUIRED:
* Bachelor’s degree
* Minimum three years experience in fundraising for non-profit organization(s)
* A demonstrated passion for work benefiting underserved children and families; experience with American Indian families a plus
* Proven ability to effectively connect with and work with, a wide range of people
* Comfortable with building donor relationships with individuals, foundations and corporations
* Excellent networking skills and ability to connect clients with each other
* Proven ability to track deadlines and balance competing priorities; to meet deadlines without fail
* Strong experience in public presentations and media relations
* Ability to problem-solve and handle challenging situations
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Excellent communication skills; reading, written, and oral skills; proven ability to write quickly and effectively, think under pressure
* Strong work ethic and self-motivated
* Continuous learner
* Positive attitude
* Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, Power Point, databases, email and Internet

Salary/Benefits: Compensation is dependent on experience. Benefits for full-time staff include medical, dental, life insurance, opportunity to invest in a 401(k) group variable annuity.
