REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FUNDRAISING DIRECTOR FOR NEDERLAND COMMUNITY LIBRARY BUILDING PROJECT PROJECT SUMMARY The Nederland Community Library desires to build a new library building to better serve the needs of the greater Nederland area Library District residents and visitors. The projected size is a 3,500–4,000 sq. ft. building designed to function as a 21st century community library. The Nederland Community Library District and Foundation Boards are committed to environmental protection and to building the new library in accordance with green standards. The library has already acquired the land for the new facility. BUDGET The Library has set a $2 million goal for its capital campaign including a $300,000 endowment to help operate a larger library with increased staff and maintenance costs. This goal will cover the cost of building, furnishing, and equipping the new library, as well as creating water efficient landscaping. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS We seek an individual for this part-time position who has experience in directing successful, multi-faceted capital campaigns that have included: Major donors Public funding sources, such as DOLA Private foundations Municipal bonds Community giving/small donors Local fundraising events experience in writing successful grant proposals for capital construction to both public and private funding sources for renewable energy and green building needs, equipment and furnishings; demonstrated ability to recruit and organize board members and volunteers to assist with the campaign; experience conducting interviews with major donor prospects; familiarity with Boulder/Denver metro area donors and other fundraising sources; experience writing a case statement and campaign materials (please provide examples of previous work); ability to work efficiently and effectively in the agreed upon time frame; ability to participate in design charettes for the local community; client references for previous work. TIME SCHEDULE Deadline for receipt of proposals: August 22, 2008 Interviews, September 2-5, 2008 Expected contract award date: September 25, 2008 SELECTION CRITERIA The Selection Committee will consist of several members of the Library District Board and the Library Foundation Board. This Committee will review all the submissions, and select the top three (3) applicants based on qualifications, references and fees. These applicants will be interviewed by the Selection Committee prior to recommending these candidates to a joint Board meeting for selection of the top two applicants, one of whom will be offered the position first. All applicants will have access to library board documents related to the project. See below for contact information and to review documents. The Nederland Community Library Foundation Board will negotiate a contract with the top candidate specifying the desired services for a set compensation and period of employment, which the Parties (candidate and board) determine in writing to be fair and reasonable. Should the Parties be unable to conclude a satisfactory contract, negotiations will be undertaken with the runner-up candidate. The Fundraising Director will report to the Nederland Community Library Foundation Board of Directors.
