SPANISH BILINGUAL OUTREACH CHILDREN’S COUNSELOR
40 Hours/Week
POSITION
OVERVIEW:
Provide counseling & support for mothers and
children served through outreach services.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Responsible for intake and assessment of children for outreach services.
- Responsible for case management and goal setting for children.
- Responsible for mentoring the children’s interns.
- Coordinates services with other agencies/schools
- Interfaces with Child Protective Services; sits on Child Protection Review Team for Tri-City Department of Social Services; advocates for mothers and children involved in Child Protective Services.
- Facilitates outreach groups for children, i.e. activity/play groups and support groups.
- Works with Volunteer Manager to recruit and train volunteers for the outreach children’s program. Supervises and schedules outreach children’s volunteers.
- Provides counseling for mothers concerning parenting issues, child development and family issues.
- Facilitates parenting groups and consults with other staff regarding children’s issues.
- Provides community outreach and education.
- DART Advocacy: is available by pager one night per month, or other hours as necessary, to respond to police requests for victim advocacy.
- Supports an organizational environment based in respect, the utilization of ethical communication, and adherence to the organization’s non-negotiables.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Spanish Bilingual required.
- Minimum B.A. degree in human services, counseling, or related equivalent required.
- Knowledge/experience in counseling with children.
- Knowledge of developmental issues, trauma, parenting, and child abuse.
- Experience in women’s issues, especially domestic violence and battering.
- Knowledge of domestic violence and battering issues, and of racial, class, and sexual orientation issues.
PAY & BENEFITS:
Annual salary is $29,000, with excellent benefits including
