WHEN EMOTIONS RUN HIGH – Staying on Message in Challenging Encounters
A major challenge for passionate people dedicated to an organizational mission is to remain values-congruent in our communications when confronted by people who challenge the basic premises of those values. Can we learn to tolerate the intolerant? Extend compassion for those who would seemingly withhold it? Drawing on evidence-based behavioral learning theories, and utilizing skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, this workshop will introduce participants to skills and practices to unhook from emotional triggers and clarify values-based objectives to remain on message even in challenging encounters.
This session will be led by Brooks Witter, MA, LPC. Brooks is a therapist in private practice and is the Senior therapist at Living Well Transitions - a private therapeutic program for young adults. He is a current member of the Boulder County Leadership Fellows program, and board president of the Colorado Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. He likes riding bikes, spending time with his wife and three dogs, and you may catch him acting silly from time to time.
This session will include a '101' session for beginners and a '201' track for more advanced staff and leaders. This is a great opportunity to build the skills and knowledge of your staff and Board members.
