Giving to and through The Community
Foundation is a one-stop, easy way to be philanthropic.
The foundation is a tax-exempt, public charity that
allows people to support emerging community needs or
to establish a separate, permanent fund within the confines
of a larger foundation. Donors who work with the foundation
find that we add value through our flexibility, expertise
about the community, staff and administrative assistance.
Gifts to the foundation can be earmarked for permanent
use in one of our fields
of interest (such as for art or human services),
our Millennium Trust, or
the Community Trust, which
will accommodate the community's most pressing needs,
now and in the future. Gifts may also be directed toward
the foundation's Administrative
Endowment, to help us continue our work in the community.
Such gifts enable us to offer such programs as
Community Ventures, Social
Venture Partners and the Culture
of Giving movement.
You can make gifts to The Community Foundation
or establish a fund using a variety
of different assets. We are set up to accept cash
and stock as well as a variety of more sophisticated
and complex gifts, including closely held stock and
real estate.
We encourage donors to help us build a permanent
savings account for Boulder County by making a gift
to the Community
Trust. The foundation makes grants from this fund
that respond to immediate community needs and opportunities.
Donors may also make gifts to establish their
own named fund through The Community Foundation. There
are a variety of options:
- The traditional Donor
Advised Endowed Fund is a fund for now and the
future. Donors generally recommend grants from a fixed
percentage of the assets of the fund. Such funds tend
to grow over time and benefit the community in perpetuity.
The staff at the foundation is able to offer expertise
and a variety of services to facilitate philanthropy.
- The Donor Advised
Gift Fund accommodates donors who want flexibility.
Once a Gift Fund is established, the donor may recommend
grants from the principal of the fund and may in fact
spend it down to zero. The Gift Fund is the perfect
option for the donor who wants to make one tax-deductible
gift now and focus on the specifics - with the help
of our staff, if requested - at a later date.
- The Donor
Advised Impact Fund offers a unique alternative
to the first two funds. Like an Endowed Fund, the
Impact Fund is invested in The Community Foundation's
investment pool allowing the principal to grow over
time. Donors may request that up to 20% of the fund
be granted each year–increasing grant amounts
to organizations the donors wish to immediately help.
