The fund, designed to honor the
eight climbers who died on the ill-fated 1996 Mount Everest
expedition that Jon Krakauer chronicled in his book, Into
Thin Air, provides humanitarian aid to people in the Himalayas.
It also helps humanitarian and environmental charities in
the United States.
