Virtual Candidates Forum: Hear what candidates say about issues import to Boulder County's Non-profit Sector

The Community Foundation and the Human Services Alliance have produced a virtual Candidates' Forum to introduce city council candidates countywide to the non-profit and general communities. This accessible and inclusive approach to sharing election information is fitting for a county where 96% of residents have access to the internet and over $12 million is distributed from local government into the local non-profit sector.

Candidates were asked to respond to the following:
* Tell us about your personal involvement with Boulder County's non-profit community.
* There is little diversity among elected officials and non-profit leadership. How can your city increase its inclusiveness, particularly in hearing from marginalized community members?
* What are your ideas about addressing volatile sales tax revenues, a portion of which is used to support local non-profits?
* Anything else you'd like to share with the non-profit community?

Brief video interviews with candidates can be viewed to learn more about their experience in working with the non-profit community and to hear their ideas about how to continue supporting the work of Boulder County's non-profit sector--a sector representing a significant local employee base and input into the economy with a $300 million payroll expense.

Nonprofit organizations (like The Community Foundation and other 501c3s) are allowed to participate in advocacy and The Community Foundation believes this to be an important part of supporting our mission to improve the quality of life in Boulder County now and forever, and to build a culture of giving. We are not allowed to endorse candidates. This forum seeks to further familiarize our donors and non-profit partners, along with their boards, volunteers, and clients, with current and potential policymakers in our community.

Support from Kaiser Permanente and Roche Colorado Corporation have made this project possible.

TRENDS Cover

The Boulder County TRENDS Report is a summary of indicators that tell us something about the status of our community's quality of life. In order to know if we're heading in a desired direction, we need some guides to show us the way.

This report is a tool for helping us understand ourselves as a community.  It can aid residents, policy makers, non-profit and government agencies, the media, businesses, and community activists in identifying and exploring the relationships among a wide range of community trends and conditions.

Sweet Success!
The Community Trust Initiative launches into year two.

In 2008, we set a goal to raise $4 million for The Community Trust by 2012. With your participation, we hit our first million and are on our way towards the second!

This success allowed The Community Foundation to nearly double funds granted in January 2009 and  to focus on how best to help reduce Boulder County's achievement gap, through early childhood school readiness.

Let's look after each other. Join the movement and make a gift to The Community Trust this year. Please send an e-mail to Chris Barge or call us at 303-442-0436 for more information.
