FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Local businesses that contribute to the community
will be recognized and rewarded for their charitable
efforts under a new program called the Business
Partners. The program will acknowledge those businesses
that donate 2 percent of their pretax profits to charity.
The program is being sponsored by the Daily Camera,
First National Bank of Colorado, the Boulder Economic
Council, Tesser, and The Community Foundation Serving
Boulder County, and has the support of all the Boulder
County Chambers of Commerce.
"Recent studies show that people in Boulder County
definitely factor in charitable giving when they decide
who to support with their business," said Josie
Heath, president of The Community Foundation. (A Philanthropy
Survey done last fall in Boulder County indicated
that over two-thirds of those interviewed would choose
to do business with one company over another if they
knew that the company contributed money or services
to the Boulder County community.) "We'd like to
be able to recognize those businesses that are already
giving back to the community, and encourage others that
aren't yet to get involved."
"We created this program to acknowledge those businesses
who already contribute to the community and encourage
others to join in," said Stan Zemler, President
and CEO of the Boulder County Chamber of Commerce.
The program will honor businesses to donate a percentage
of their pre-tax income to charitable organizations
in the community. Those donations, which must equal
2 percent for the business to become a Good Givers Club
member, may be in the form of cash, in-kind services,
or paid employee volunteer time.
Participants in the program will be honored at an annual
luncheon and will be given stickers to put in their
windows that distinguish them as businesses who give
back to the community.
Hope is to recognize those that are doing it, encourage
others to get involved.
