Two local foundations are bringing a new kind of catalog
to Boulder County. The Catalog for Giving, originally
launched to help charities serving disadvantaged youth
in New York, has raised over $3 million there, since
its inception.
The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County and
the Brett Family Foundation have teamed up to adapt
the idea locally, and will launch a Catalog for Giving,
Boulder County only the fourth affiliate in the
country on October 25. The catalog features area
nonprofit organizations that work with youth, including
descriptions of their work and how donations will help
the groups mission. People may then use the catalog
to donate directly to the group of their choice, with
100 percent of their donation going to the designated
organization. Linda Shoemaker, president of the Brett
Family Foundation, ran across the Bay Areas Catalog
for Giving while on a trip to San Francisco, and was
impressed by the idea.
Boulder County nonprofits that provide services to disadvantaged
children and youth applied in May 2001, and the two
foundations, working with a selection committee of community
members, picked 12 groups to tell their stories in the
catalog. Those groups chosen for inclusion had to demonstrate
a sound financial picture, strong programmatic work
and represent the diversity of our county.
"Community support and donations to these groups
will help them continue their amazing work with the
youth of Boulder County," said Lindsey Delaplaine,
Vice President of Programs at The Community Foundation.
"We would love to see people get excited about
something happening here and have an easy way to connect
with it."
The Daily Camera has agreed to insert the Catalog in
papers on Sunday, October 28. The Catalogs will also
be available throughout Boulder County in offices, shops
and organizations, or by calling 720-565-3898 or on
the website, www.cfgbouldercounty.org.
