Millennium Trust Time Capsule 2000 -2050
What will citizens of Boulder County in 2050 think of
Boulder residents living at the beginning of the Millennium?
Wanting to share their love of Boulder County with future
generations, The Community Foundation will hold a public
ceremony burying the Millennium Trust Time Capsule in
the courtyard of its new home at 1123 Spruce Street, Boulder,
Colorado, on Friday, September 7, 2001, at 4:00 P.M.
The capsule, to be opened in 2050, contains the names,
hopes and dreams of more than 6200 donors to the Millennium
Trust, plus photos and memorabilia from Boulder County
in the year 2000.
The Community Foundation created The Millennium Trust
to establish a permanent, flexible fund to help people
in Boulder County of any means to think of themselves
as philanthropists, and to give people the ability to
have a positive impact on the future and the new millennium.
By asking donors to contribute the equivalent of their
last hour of 1999 income, and matching funds from a million
dollar gift from Michael Gilliland and Libby Cook of Wild
Oats, the Trust raised over $1,800,000 in the last few
months of 1999.
To show its profound appreciation, The Community Foundation
welcomes all Millennium Trust donors and grantees to the
Millennium Trust Time Capsule ceremony. Josie Heath, founder
of The Community Foundation, reported that $100,000 has
already been distributed from the Millennium Trust. The
first years recipients were groups building a sense
of community such as the Boulder County Latina Womens
League, Lafayettes Project Yes, and Community Food
Share of Growing Gardens of Boulder County. Recipients
for 2001, chosen for their work in "building bridges"
in the community, will be announced at the Community Foundation
luncheon on September 13, 2001.
