BOULDER (August 19, 2005) – The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County’s mission is to improve the quality of life of Boulder County citizens on a broad scale. The University of Colorado Athletic Department has an annual mission to share athletics with local kids and families.

These two Boulder County institutions will team up during the 2005-06 athletic season and collaborate in the “Ralphie’s Kids Roundup” to make sure that 2,700 tickets reach the hands of individuals who would not typically have the opportunity to attend home football and basketball games.

“Individuals, youth and families served by the non-profit community will have the opportunity to attend a sporting event at the collegiate level. This may be a first and an once-in-a-lifetime occasion for many. The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County and the University of Colorado’s Athletic Department are excited about this collaboration and the benefit to the non-profit community and residents of Boulder County,” said Carly Hare, Community Foundation Programs Director.

The Community Foundation works with local donors and over 350 local nonprofits to not only respond to the community’s basic needs, but also, to enhance people’s lives through recreational and cultural programs. Since 1992, the foundation has granted over $12 million locally and elsewhere. For many local kids, their first introduction to CU-Boulder, or to colleges in general, is through stepping onto campus for an athletic event. Attending a football or basketball game (men’s and women’s games) provides kids with the opportunity to see experienced athletes who have a proven investment in the work and discipline it takes to work as team and to achieve.

The collaboration will match CU’s efforts to distribute tickets to people who will benefit from a college athletic experience with The Community Foundation’s expertise in facilitating connections between the non-profit sector and the broader community. Creating this partnership and new system for distributing football and basketball tickets speaks to the willingness of CU’s new athletic director Mike Bohn to foster a relationship between the local community and CU-Boulder.

“This is a perfect partnership to accomplish exactly what we set out to do when we established Ralphie’s Kids Roundup,” Bohn said. “Teaming with the Community Foundation in the first year of this important program will definitely get it off the ground and lay the groundwork for what should become a great experience for all those involved.”

This season, there are six football games and 30 basketball games (men’s and women’s) on the CU-Boulder campus. The roar of the crowd will be louder this year as CU Boulder and The Community Foundation bring new faces to every event for fun and inspiration.
