Description of Event
About the Event:
Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Ageism and Abuse In Later Life. American society has been described as maintaining a stereotypical and often negative perception of older adults that is readily apparent in such areas as language, media, and humor. In understanding abuse in later life we must start by examining our ageist attitudes and how elder abuse is a social justice issue, along with all other "isms" that oppress, discriminate against and marginalize others. This seminar introduces how the concept of Ageism is closely tied with abuse in later life. Presented by Tsunemi Maehara Rooney, Counseling Program Director at SPAN.
