| In the past The Community
Foundation has partnered with the University of Colorado
and the Center for Entrepreneurship to place MBA students
in nonprofits over the summer. This year we have made
several changes to the process. Applications will be accepted
on a rolling basis, and students are available throughout
the year. However, placements will now be made on a project
basis, not as agency interns. Applications will be taken
over the web, described below.
ROBERT H. and BEVERLY A. DEMING
CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
A Joint Program of the Colleges of Business &
Engineering
MBA Social Non-Profit Consulting
Projects
Social non-profit organizations in the Front
Range are invited to post announcements for projects
which might be suited to MBA assistance through the
Business Career Center. These announcements may be posted
at any time for ongoing student projects, rather than
as summer internship or consulting projects as in the
past. This process will take advantage of the online
MBA JobBoard, which is also used for listing full time
positions and for-profit internships. It is our hope
that this process will prove efficient and useful for
both MBA students and potential host organizations.
Typical intern assignments include market
research and analysis; project and product management;
strategic planning; financial planning, analysis and
management; venture capital and investment banking modeling
and analysis; special projects; acquisition research,
review and analysis; portfolio and investment management;
new product development; systems design and administration;
and researching and evaluating new business opportunities.
You may post your internship listing by starting
at the home page of the Career Center of the College
of Business: http://bus.colorado.edu/career/employers/.
At that page, select the "Recruiting MBA Students"
link. From there, select "Enter Job Listing".
That takes you to an online form which enters the job
listing. If you prefer, you may fill out a hard copy
of the form and fax it to the office. You may call the
Business Career Center and Heather Hobbs will be very
happy to assist in any way. The numbers are 303-492-1808
and 303-492-7979 or email: business.career@colorado.edu.
Students are able to check the job postings
online and decide which opportunities they wish to pursue.
Be very clear about the qualifications required for
the position and the application procedure you wish
for them to follow. All social non-profit projects will
be administered through an advisory board which includes
a business faculty representative, a representative
of the Deming Center and a representative of the Community
Foundation Serving Boulder County. Before any project
may be undertaken, the MBA student and a representative
of the non-profit organization must meet with the advisory
board to define the scope of the project and appropriate
milestones.
As in past years, there are a limited number
of stipends available to help supplement student wages
at entrepreneurial social non-profit organizations.
MBA students may apply directly to the Deming Center
for such a stipend if it seems appropriate. Host organizations
are always expected to provide a portion of the salary,
in addition to a quality MBA project experience.
For further information or assistance, contact
the Deming Center at: Deming@Colorado.edu
or 303-735-5415.
