in assessing their own organization's governance against common
standards for nonprofit boards. Topics include roles and responsibilities

experts and are looking to complement their existing skills.
The sessions will provide alternative means of strengthening
your nonprofit, from addressing the laws that affect your
organization to ideas on how to compete for dollars in these
different and challenging times.

Lobbying 101 for Nonprofits

This workshop will discuss the pressing need for public policy
advocacy by nonprofits. Despite some legal restrictions, nonprofits
can do more than many people think to lobby for change. The
workshop will also highlight some significant advocacy efforts
by Colorado nonprofits.

In this session Kim will address a number of new developments
that nonprofits are facing, from the effects of the governments
war on terrorism, to fallout from the American Red Cross debacle,
to the Patriot Act, and how all of these effect fundraising.

This track was designed around an exciting upcoming opportunity.
This summer, Boulder County will host its first Funders
Fair. The Funders Fair will include a large number of
Colorado foundations, government representatives, and corporate
foundations who will be available to answer questions and
discuss their funding interests with the nonprofits in attendance.
Nonprofits will also have a chance to share information about
their work with the various funders. This track is designed
to assist nonprofits in making their case from start to finish:
doing prospect research, doing prep work on applications so
that they can be turned around quickly, and presenting their
case with the most impact.
Ready, Set, Go:
Preparing for and Participating in
the Funders Fair

The lessons learned in this workshop will apply to a number
of scenarios, but will be extremely helpful in making the
most of the upcoming Funders Fair. Topics include what
the Funders Fair is and the role of the nonprofit in
the fair, prospect research, and how best to present your
organization to a prospective funder.

Fair to maximize your organizations likelihood of receiving
funding including building on the relationships you develop
during the Funders Fair and how to streamline your application
process so that you can respond quickly to grant opportunities.
