Statement
of Purpose/Activities:
El Comité de Longmont will offer the 2nd Annual
Multicultural Film Festival in April 2007 to facilitate
understanding and communication regarding diversity
within the community. The event is designed to promote
film as a medium for community education and enrichment.
The event will accomplish this by screening a minimum
of 5 films in Longmont with themes that highlight immigration
experiences, focus on contributions made by ethnic groups,
portray challenges faced by ethnic communities in the
United States, and/or celebrate multiculturalism.
There is an expression in Spanish which says, “What
the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t feel.”
We have found this expression to be true and that film
can be a powerful medium for enhancing appreciation
and empathy among community members for groups that
come from different backgrounds than themselves.
Meeting Dates/Times: April 2007—Longmont
