Community Leadership Awards

Each year, the Community Foundation presents two Community Leadership awards: the Pat-on-the-Back Award and the Stan Black Award.

Pat-on-the-Back Award

The Pat-on-the-Back Award honors Patricia Ford Shoemaker (July 4, 1920-October 18, 1998) and recognizes other individuals who have given extraordinary, but often unsung volunteer time in caring for the community.

A “pink lady” volunteer for the Boulder Community Hospital for 28 years, Pat also produced monthly original craft displays and baby blankets. Pat was the Boulder Community Hospital Outstanding Volunteer of the Year in 1983 and was honored as the Colorado Auxilian of the Year in 1984. She was a homemaker and the mother of two daughters, Linda Shoemaker of Boulder and Judy Miller of Tucson, Arizona. Potential nominees should embody Pat’s dedication and caring. A $1K award will be presented to the honoree to be directed to the nonprofit of his or her choice.

Stan Black Award

The Stan Black Award honors one of the founders of the Community Foundation. Stan, now retired, continues to actively participant in a number of causes – both in Boulder County and overseas. In addition to support from individual donors, award sponsors include the law firm of Hutchinson, Black & Cook. The award is intended to honor an individual who, like Stan Black, has given a lifetime of "time, treasure and talent" to the community. A $1K award is presented to the honoree, to be directed to the nonprofit organization of his or her choice.
