Ken Long

Ken Long has amassed over twenty years of progressive accounting and finance experience with an emphasis in non-profit management. During this time, his leadership roles have been extensive with roles at public foundations, a private foundation, and in higher education. These different roles and experiences helped him build a better understanding of the philanthropic landscape and how all the different organizations in a community can do better together. Ultimately, this has all led to a career in philanthropy.

Most recently, Ken served as the Chief Financial and Operations Officer for the Frey Foundation where he provided financial leadership and supported efforts that positively impact West Michigan communities. Before this role, Ken provided leadership at Muskegon Community College (MCC) where he served as the Vice President of Finance and Chief Advancement Officer. He was responsible for recommending financial strategy and managing the financial operations of an approximately $50 million budget. In addition, he provided strategic leadership to the Foundation for MCC in efforts to support the college through fund development.

Prior to his most recent roles in Michigan, Ken and his family lived in sunny Colorado where he held positions as the Director of Finance and Administration with Western Colorado Community Foundation and Controller with the Vail Valley Foundation. He even served three years as the head cross country and track coach at his community’s high school.

Ken earned a Master of Business Administration from Western Michigan University and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Michigan University. He was the first member of his family to earn a four-year degree. An outdoors enthusiast: he enjoys mountaineering, mountain biking, snowboarding, and running ultramarathons among many other activities. Ken enjoys spending time with his family - his wife, Heather, their son, Connor, and their family dog, Macy.
