Celebrate Our Innovative Community With Your 2022 Nino Gallo Award Nominations

In 2021, the Community Foundation Boulder County established the Nino Gallo Leadership Award, to recognize outstanding local leaders who embody the legacy of community treasure, Nino Gallo.

The 2022 nomination process is open and we would love for our community to submit their nominations to celebrate the legacy of Nino and the ongoing work in our community that Nino embodied.

The Award honors a resident of Boulder County who is an immigrant or a descendant of a recent immigrant who builds on Nino’s legacy including:
  • Innovative work on behalf of immigrants
  • Support for the economically-disadvantaged
  • Influence on community engagement efforts
  • Impact on local programs and policies
Please tell us about the obstacles the nominee has overcome and how the nominee has inspired others by example. Please also include a short bio and/or resume of the nominee.  The nominee must be an immigrant or a descendant of recent immigrants.

The award advances Nino’s legacy, including his innovative work on behalf of immigrants and the economicallydisadvantaged that shaped community engagement efforts, programs and policies throughout Boulder and Broomfield counties. The native of Chile passed away on Dec. 1, 2020 of COVID-19.

An Award selection committee made up of alumni from the Leadership Fellows Program, along with close family members, reviews applications and determines the honoree. A $1,000 award will be presented to the honoree on November 10, 2022 at the Foundation’s annual Friends Event.

"Nino's leadership skills remind us of the importance of being bold, thoughtful, and authentic,” said Norma Fuentes, Nino’s widow, and long-time community activist, “He possessed the unique gifts of humility and a great sense of humor, which contributed to his impressive legacy and impact on Earth. Boulder County is and will continue to be, enriched through our present and future gifted minority leaders, inspired by Nino’s life and legacy.”
