Boulder County Ranks #1 for Female Executives

Boulder County has the highest concentration of female top executives among working women, according to a study by Avalanche Consulting in Austin, TX. For every 1,000 female workers in Boulder County, 17.7 qualify as executives. Nationally, that figure drops to eight top executives for every 1,000 female workers.

The prevalence of female top executives varies widely by location, according to the study, which compared metropolitan statistical areas across the county. Some places—like Boulder County, Bridgeport, CT, and Akron, OH—report rates more than twice the national average. In other metro areas, “fewer than two out of every 1,000 female workers is classified as a top executive,” according to a statement by Avalanche Consulting Research Director John Rees.

So the great news is Boulder County tops the list. The less-great news is that women still lag men across the board, according to Rees. Not one metro area has a higher proportion of female top executives than the overall U.S. average for men.

The 10 metro areas with the highest concentrations of female executives per 1,000 female workers are: Boulder County, CO; Bridgeport, CT; Akron, OH; Bremerton, WA; St. Cloud, MN; Hagerstown, MD; Reno-Sparks, NV; Santa Cruz, CA: Montgomery, AL; and San Francisco, CA.
