Colorado ranked 9th in the nationin 2012 for the percentage of students earning a qualifying score on Advanced Placement (AP) exams, according to the ninth annual AP Report to the Nation released by the College Board this week. AP exams are scored on a five-point scale. Students receiving a three or higher qualify apply course work for college credit.
Boulder Valley School District was one of five school districts in the state named to the 3rd Annual AP Honor Roll. To receive the honor roll distinction, a school district must demonstrate three years of improved AP qualifying scores by increasing student participation as well as performance especially among under-represented student populations.Other Colorado districts earning that distinction are Lewis-Palmer School District #38, Estes Park School District, Poudre School District, and Weld RE-4 School District.
Colorado highlights:
* 59.8 percent of Colorado 2012 graduates who took AP exams received a score of three or higher.
* Colorado ranked sixth in the nation for improving the percentage of graduates scoring a three or higher.
* While states like Colorado have made progress improving the equity/achievemnt gap, minority and low-income students remain underrepresented in AP classrooms. Latino students made up 22.5 percent of the class of 2012 and accounted for 11.6 percent of those students scoring a three or higher on AP exams. This represents an improvement over 2011.
