Perhaps no one knows better than the nonprofit community what tough economic times we’re in. Just yesterday, the OUR Center served a free hot lunch to a former Seagate engineer whose house has entered foreclosure.
Nonprofit organizations have a front seat to stories like his – more frequently now than ever, unfortunately.
So it was with great satisfaction that The Community Foundation hosted the heads of 95 Boulder County nonprofits at a reception in their honor last night, where we handed them grant checks worth $314,000.
That was nearly double the amount we granted last year out of the Community Trust. And it was all made possible because more than 800 generous people across Boulder County answered our call in September to help us raise $4 million over the next four years so that we can permanently do what we did last night.
The money raised will go to great causes like the Our Center and the 94 other ones we funded last night. It will boost the fund’s endowment. And it will go towards an initiative we will formally announce soon, to help close Boulder County’s achievement gap by supporting quality early childhood education for all students.
These are hard economic times. But thanks to everyone out there who has joined forces with our Million Dollar Mission, we are looking out for each other.
