We rely heavily at The Community Foundation on the inspired efforts of our donors, but especially of our Trustees, who volunteer their time to make Boulder County a better place for all people to live.
So it was extra inspiring to read on the front page of the Daily Camera this morning that Trustee Robin Luff and her husband Kevin have donated $100,000 to kick-start a food overhaul program in the Boulder Valley School District.
This gift comes at a time when the recession has forced the district just this week into announcing an administrative hiring and travel freeze because of anticipated revenue shortfalls.
The Luffs have long have supported making school food more nutritious.
“Whether it’s $25, $2,500 or $250,000, this community will not allow this to fail,” she told the Daily Camera. “They’ve wanted it for so long.”
Better still, Whole Foods has promised to match the Luff gift next year. And they have vowed to ask shoppers at their five area stores whether they want to donate to the BVSD school-food project.
Whole Foods also financially supports The Community Foundation’s programatic work. Kudos to them for taking a leadership role in local corporate philanthropy.
And way to go, Luff Family!
