The way Jonathan Munro sees it, a shared passion and commitment to our community underscores Wells Fargo’s partnership with The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County.
“Both organizations want to do our utmost to help Boulder County thrive,” says Munro, Area President, Northern Colorado Retail Banking, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. “We want our community to stay a great place for all of us to live, work, play and do business.”
Wells Fargo has engaged in local communities since its earliest days in Colorado, in the 1860s. “Providing grants and supporting the volunteer work of our team members is simply part of how we do business,” explains Munro. “Our giving [more than $7.1 million across Colorado in 2014] aligns with many of The Community Foundation’s areas of focus, including the arts, civic organizations, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services.
“One area that we’re particularly passionate about is closing the achievement gap between kids from low-income families and their peers. We support and align with The Community Foundation’s efforts and ideas around education.”
Wells Fargo’s involvement with The Community Foundation goes back several years – over the past three years alone, the bank has donated $15K to the foundation. “We have also been involved with The Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees,” adds Munro, noting longtime Boulder resident Ken Zelie who served as a trustee in the mid-2000s. Zelie, former president of Wells Fargo’s Northern Colorado region, retired in 2008 after 30 years with the bank. “We believe all businesses have an important role to play in keeping our community strong.
“It’s part of culture to encourage all our team members – myself included – to get involved in our communities. We help spread the word about local volunteer opportunities and allow team members to volunteer during business hours…and to get paid for their volunteer time.”
Munro – who moved to Erie from Weston, Florida, last October – has been with Wells Fargo for 10 years. “I’ve logged many hours volunteering with the Ronald McDonald House, and I’ve already done some Habitat builds since coming here.
“There’s no question that when we work together, we can do great things.”
