Community Trust Grant Reception

Thursday evening will be the perfect time for friends of the Community Foundation to see the impact their support has in Boulder County.

The Community Foundation will distribute $315,000 in 2014 Community Trust grants to local organizations. The dozens of grantees include the Dairy Center for the Arts, Meals on Wheels in Longmont and Boulder, Project YES and Colorado Horse Rescue.

The celebration will be from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Museum of Boulder’s new location at 2205 Broadway, Boulder.

In total in 2014, the Community Foundation delivered $5.5 million in grants to charities and other nonprofits.

The Community Trust is a unique, community-driven grant program that directly engages county residents with the grant-making process. The grants are primarily funded by the Community Foundation’s Community Trust endowment, which has grown to $6.1 million thanks to more than 5,000 gifts by local residents since its inception in 2000.

Noteworthy gifts in 2014 came from the acquisition of three members of the Entrepreneurs Foundation of Colorado, which is run by the Community Foundation. EFCO members pledge 1 percent of their early stage equity, which is donated upon the successful exits of those companies. Gnip, Mocavo, Revolv — in addition to EFCO member Foundry Group — collectively contributed approximately $821,300 to the Community Foundation.

“It is a nice opportunity for friends of the Community Foundation to see their dollars at work and to see the fine work being done by nonprofits throughout the county,” said Josie Heath, the President of the Community Foundation.

Since 1992, the Community Foundation has distributed more than $61.9 million to nonprofits working in the arts, civic engagement, education, human services, environmental stewardship and more.
