FLOOD DEVASTATED JAMESTOWN LAUNCHES
EFFORT TO REBUILD
Displaced Colorado community starts fundraising to rebuild roads and bridges, water treatment plant, town parks and other infrastructure after historic disaster
JAMESTOWN—Jamestown, Colorado, has launched a fundraising effort to rebuild the community. Partnering with The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County, citizens of Jamestown are looking to repair infrastructure torn apart by historic rains, flooding and mudslides.
Jamestown Mayor Tara Schoedinger made the following statement:
Jamestown is a historic close-knit mountain community in an idyllic mountain setting. We have unique and immediate needs at this time after the flood and must completely rebuild our town infrastructure: water, sewer, roads, and the fire station. The citizens of Jamestown need your help in this time of tragedy. You can help us to Rebuild Jamestown by making a tax-deductible donation through the Boulder Community Foundation. Thank you.
What Jamestown lost:
· A significant percentage of the homes have been completely destroyed and washed away by the floods. A much higher percentage of the homes have been damaged.
· Jamestown lost several roads and all bridges leaving the town inaccessible.
· The water treatment plant has been rendered inoperable, leaving the community with no fresh water supply. Jamestown is a small municipality within Boulder County that owns the roads the town infrastructure, all of which are critically damaged.
· We cannot undertake rebuilding efforts on our own, especially on an annual budget of $56,000. FEMA, Boulder County and other state and federal agencies will provide greatly needed financial assistance to help rebuild Jamestown, the Town will be required to contribute. There will be costs to the Town beyond what these agencies will support.
