Gifts that Give Back: Planned Giving 101

You don’t have to be Bill Gates or Warren Buffet to make a difference in preserving and improving your community – today and for future generations.

Indeed, there are several straightforward ways to leave a legacy, no matter your income. Even if you’re not a billionaire or a millionaire (after all, most of us aren’t), we’ll show you how you can positively impact the causes you care about most.

One way to give back is through your retirement plan, life insurance policy or annuity simply by naming The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County as a beneficiary. We can help you with this process and we’ll make sure to fulfill your philanthropic purpose – whether toward general community support or your specific area of interest.

Another easy way to give back is through your will (also called a bequest). We make it simple for you to designate assets to the Foundation, your donor-advised fund or another Foundation fund of your choice. When you include us in your estate planning documents, you can specify the amount or percentage of your estate that you’d like to give – or what remains after all other bequests to your loved ones have been made.

There’s also the option of something called a Charitable Remainder or Lead Trust as a means to make a tax-deductible gift to the Foundation. We’re happy to work with you to create a trust according to your individual needs and wishes – and you’ll receive tax benefits, to boot. Income from the trust would be directed to you or the Foundation, depending on which type of trust you choose.

Other giving options include gifting real estate, business interests or other assets to the Foundation, often with significant tax advantages to you.

Because we work hard to stay in tune with the current and future needs of this beautiful place we call home, the Foundation is well-positioned to direct its resources toward the causes that most need our attention…and with your gift of any size, we can accomplish so much more than any one of us could do alone.

We look forward to hearing from you, to help you plan your giving legacy. And if you’ve already named the Foundation in your estate plans, please let us know…we’d like to thank you and acknowledge your commitment through our Legacy Society.
