Local kids are doing their part to turn lemons into lemonade.  Boulder’s Patrick and Wyatt Norman brought in a donation on September 14th, and this week Aric Olson of Nederland represented a group of friends (five and six-year-olds!) from a lemonade and cookie stand that leveraged traffic from leaf viewers up in Nederland.

Five-and-a-half-year-old Aric said, “It was just really fun because we made a lot of money because lots of people lost their cars, houses, toys, and books. They need new ones.”

Mom, Mary, said, “People were really very generous.”

Congrats to Patrick, Wyatt, Mary, Ben Nichols, Anders Henrikson, Avy Henrikson, Aspen Gierlach, and Dads, Terry Olson and Joe Gierlach, for doing such great work!

Shout outs also go to the Yoga Pod, Namaste Solar, and a recent benefit concert up at the Gold Hill Inn for raising more than $2,000 for the Fund.

Eight-year-old Jasmine Mosberger recently hosted thirteen friends at her home for her birthday party. Her guests were asked to bring a donation to the fire fund in lieu of a gift for Jasmine. Jasmine said she didn’t miss getting gifts and that she wanted to help people. Her b-day party raised $228.

Manhattan Middle Schoolers raised $1,400 through their annual Penny Pot Fundraiser to support those affected by the fire. The Boulder Humane Society received $700 to support their work sheltering animals evacuated during the fire, and The Community Foundation’s fire fund received $700.  Way to go Manhattan!

As of this post, contributions to the Boulder Mt. Fire Relief Fund total approximately $690,000.

The Fund’s Governance Committee recently approved that  at least 1/3 of the fund will support affected fire districts, at least 1/3 will support individuals, families, and non-profit organizations directly affected and in need of financial support, and 1/3 will be reserved until all the applications are reviewed and a deeper understanding of the needs is known.

Applications for those in need of assistance after the fire and a list of frequently asked questions about applying for assistance can be found on https://www.commfound.org/.  Applications are due before 5pm on October 25th at The Community Foundation offices (1123 Spruce Street, Boulder).
