Boulder County’s excellent school districts deserve praise for today’s news that graduation rates are up across the board, and especially for Latinos. These gains are a result of many efforts by students, teachers and families. Taken together, they are helping to close the achievement gap.

I see evidence every week that our community is rallying around closing this gap. As we get more involved in these efforts, more and more of you are sending me links to stories that you read in the New York Times, Daily Camera and Denver Post, that you hear on NPR and Colorado Public Radio, and that you see on Ted Talks and on public television. Please see our Web site’s “Latest News” sections for links to many of these stories. And keep them coming by emailing me at Chris@commfound.org.
The Community Foundation’s focus remains ensuring that as many kids as possible in our county arrive at school ready to learn, ready to achieve. We are working with groups across Boulder County and across the state to intensify these efforts. Already we have formed partnerships with our schools, elected officials, and leaders from the nonprofit, business, faith and other sectors.
My emerging mantra: “What are we doing, and why?”
