Planned Giving spotlight: Judy Snyder

“I figured the Community Foundation was a good way to learn about Boulder and Boulder County.”

Boulderite Judy Snyder – University of Denver Professor Emeritus – first learned about the Community Foundation through her involvement with Friendship Bridge, a foundation grantee.

“That was three years ago,” says Judy. “At the time, I was contemplating retirement. And I realized that I didn’t know Boulder very well, even though I live here. But I had been commuting 64 miles a day, which left little time to explore my own community.

“I figured the Community Foundation was a good way to learn about Boulder and Boulder County.”

Subsequently, Judy became involved with the foundation, volunteering her time to review grant proposals. “There’s something special about providing your expertise to benefit your community,” she says. “Once I got involved, I started to feel more connected to my community. And now, I have my heart with the Community Foundation.

“You can’t meet better people than the foundation staff. They demonstrate integrity in everything they do – in the various ways they support and strengthen Boulder County, they really do their homework. Whatever it is, they don’t do it, if they don’t do it right.”

As a member of the foundation’s Legacy Society, Judy did her homework, too.

“Before I made a gift, I thoroughly researched the foundation,” she says. “If an organization isn’t credible, I don’t give.

“What I found is that the Community Foundation is a four-star organization. And they don’t bug you about giving – which only makes me more willing to give. Other organizations I’ve given to are sometimes all over the map, but the Community Foundation makes the experience of giving very rewarding.

“It’s the people who make the difference. And I love the people at Spruce Street.”
