Speak up for school readiness at BVSD community forums

The Boulder Valley School District has developed a new set of interim Vision, Mission and Goal statements to guide decisions such as budget priorities and policies for the next 3 to 5 years. The public has a chance to weigh in on these goals at three more sessions, including tonight at Fairview High School from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The interim goals include several statements aimed at helping to close the achievement gap through early learning. For a full list of what the school board and superintendent have come up with, check out this link:

​The community consensus work that we began in early November 2012 has now produced interim vision, mission and goals statements which are posted on the district’s Vision & Goals web page. All interested BVSD community stakeholders are invited to review and comment on these statements either online at BVSD Listens through March 16 or at one of the following community meetings:

  • Monday, February 25, 6-7:30 PM (conducted in Spanish with English translation available) Intercambio, 4735 Walnut St., Suite B, Boulder
  • Thursday, February 28, 6-7:30 PM (conducted in English with Spanish translation available) Broomfield High School Library, #1 Eagle Way, Broomfield
  • Monday, March 4, 6-7:30 PM (conducted in English with Spanish translation available) Fairview High School Library, 1515 Greenbriar Blvd., Boulder
  • Tuesday, March 5, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM (conducted in English) Nederland Community Center, 750 North Highway 72, Nederland
  • Monday, March 11, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM (conducted in English with Spanish translation available) Lafayette Public Library, 775 W. Baseline Rd., Lafayette

At least three school board members and I will be at each of these meetings. After we have heard comments from the community on the interim statements, the board and I will establish long-term goals for the district.
