Tune into 88.5FM Monday morning for a fresh episode of The Community Foundation’s radio collaboration with KGNU. From 8:35AM to 9AM the fourth Monday of every month, The Community Foundation’s Morgan Rogers and Barbara Green host KGNU’s “A Public Affair.” On Monday, December 24, Barbara will discuss the growing ranks of Boulder County’s working poor with Terry Benjamin, executive director of Emergency Family Assistance Association in Boulder, and Suzanne Crawford, CEO of Sister Carmen Community Center in Lafayette.
Roughly 14% of individuals and 17% of children under the age of five in Boulder County live below the federal poverty line, which is set at roughly $11,000 in annual income for an individual and about $23,000 for a family of four. Roughly 30% of the county’s residents live within 200% of the poverty line, which is considered by many to be a more accurate (though arguably still inadequate) representation of poverty.
