Bequests
Consider leaving assets to the Community Foundation, or to a specific fund at the foundation, in your estate plan. It’s an easy way to leave a legacy in Boulder County, and provide crucial funds for future generations.
How it works
- Name the Community Foundation, your Donor-Advised Fund, or another fund of the Community Foundation in your estate planning documents.
- The Community Foundation can be named for a specific amount or a percentage of your estate, or to receive a specific asset in your estate. Or, you can give the remainder of your estate – that is, what remains after all other bequests to friends and loved ones are taken care of.
Sample language to provide a bequest
I give, devise and bequeath to the Community Foundation, a charitable organization located in Boulder, CO, with the Federal Tax Identification Number 84-1171836, (the sum of $_____); (_____percent of my estate); (the following property: _____); or (the rest, residue and remainder of my estate).
Life insurance or retirement plan
Consider providing ongoing support for the community you love by naming the Community Foundation as a full or partial beneficiary of your life insurance, retirement plan, or annuity.
How it works
- Name the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of your insurance policy, retirement plan, or annuity. We’re available to assist you and your advisors in this process.
- The Community Foundation uses assets to fulfill your charitable intent, whether for general community support, ongoing funding in a particular area of interest, or through a Donor-Advised Fund.
Charitable remainder or lead trust
Consider establishing a charitable remainder or lead trust to make a significant tax-deductible gift to the Community Foundation.
How it works
- Create a trust that reflects your unique needs and wishes.
- Receive tax benefits, while income from the trust is directed to you or the Community Foundation – depending on the type of trust you choose.
- When your trust ends, the principal of a remainder trust remains at the Community Foundation; the principal of a lead trust is returned to your estate.
Other planned gifts
Consider making a gift of real estate, business interests, or other assets to the Community Foundation. Not only are there often tax advantages in doing so, but you’ll also be supporting our mission to improve the quality of life for everyone in Boulder County – for generations to come.
How it works
- Leave a permanent legacy to benefit Boulder County in a general way, or set up your gift to fund a specific area of interest.
- Your gift will be managed by our knowledgeable and experienced staff, and used to honor your wishes.
