An extension of our biennial TRENDS Report, “A Public Affair” brings you expert interviews and in-depth insights on timely topics. Our goal is to inspire community conversation about issues that affect all of us – from health, education and the economy, to civic engagement, arts and culture, the environment, and more.

    Who are elders in Boulder County? According to the latest edition of our TRENDS Report, seniors are a fast growing population here...but openness and support toward this population is waning. On our radio show this month, we explored this tension, the issues local seniors face, and how our community might better appreciate and leverage the gifts of our older residents. Joining host Jim Williams, a Trustee of the Community Foundation, local seniors and professionals working on behalf of seniors weighed in.

Guests include Karla Hale, Executive Director of Longmont Meals on Wheels; Michelle Orge, Executive Director of Community Food Share; Ingrid Walsh, Founder and Executive Director of Real|Good.

    The Community Foundation Boulder County hosts part two of a series about the impact of the current socio/political climate on our own community. Members of our community—especially those most vulnerable and underrepresented—are experiencing increased aggressions on both micro and macro levels. In the first program, we introduced the problem, illustrated how it can affect individuals and families, and introduced the concept of being a bystander and/or ally. In the second program we will dig deeper into the impacts on our broader community, the importance of empathy, and explore how someone can be an ally.
