Our goal is to inspire community conversation about issues that affect all of us – from health, education and the economy, to civic engagement, arts and culture, the environment, and more.

    People have been asking us at the Community Foundation what 2017 will be like for Boulder County’s nonprofit sector, in light of 2016’s dynamic Presidential election. We’ll cover this topic with guests from an environmental organization and nonprofits serving our LGBTQ and disabled communities. Host Leslie Allen, Community Foundation trustee, will help us understand the status of fundraising, policy, and volunteerism for these groups now and into 2017.

    It’s a time of significant executive leadership transition in Boulder County’s nonprofit sector. Join host Leslie Allen, Trustee of The Community Foundation, for a conversation about the impacts and opportunities of those transitions on the county’s nonprofits and our broader community. Guests will include Wendy Reynolds, President of Via’s Board of Directors; Helen Gemmill, Former Chair of The Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees; and Julie Van Domelen, Executive Director of the Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA).

Longmont created opportunities for residents to talk about the issue through a number of Community Conversations and identify recommendations for action. Elvira Ramos, Director of Programs for The Community Foundation, hosts a discussion with guests Karen Roney, Community Service Director, City of Longmont and Sharon McCaffery, LCSW, with  Longmont’s Soft Voices program

Elvira Ramos hosted Deb Gardner, Boulder County Commissioner; Jen Calloway, Veteran; and Michael Holiday, Boulder County Veteran Services Officer to discuss issues Veterans face in Boulder County and what the community can do to help.

    The achievement gap between Latino and Anglo students is wider in Boulder County than just about anywhere else in Colorado. The Community Foundation is working directly with Latino parents to help fight this trend, through a new program called Engaged Latino Parents Advancing School Outcomes. Two years in, ELPASO has reached more than 1,600 Latino parents of 0-5 year olds, and trained 50 Latino parent leaders who have hosted more than 200 house meetings and trained hundreds more parents. Our host, Chris Barge, directs ELPASO in his role as Director of the Foundation's School Readiness Initiative. His guests are two of the Latino parents at the heart of this Latino parent revolution: Veronica Sangabriel, one of ELPASO's three School Readiness Coordinators, and Chely Meraz, a Latino parent leader who has been transformed by ELPASO and has helped transform other parents through ELPASO.
