Support Your Community Through Community Trust

Do you want to make an impact in Boulder County but don't know where to start? Make a gift to amplify Community Trust Grantmaking!

Born out of a growing desire from local philanthropists to create collective impact, this opportunity provides an efficient way for all donors to amplify the impact of Community Trust grantmaking by growing the funds available to the Boulder County nonprofits and organizations receiving grants from Community Trust.

Last year, we raised just over $100,000 to boost Community Trust grantmaking. In 2024, we plan to double down with a goal of raising $200,000 in support of the important work our grantees are doing throughout Boulder County.

Why now?

Every year, grant requests exceed the funds the community foundation is able to grant out, and while many COVID-era funding opportunities and resources have ended, many nonprofits are still facing long-term challenges exacerbated by the pandemic and other unforeseen events in our community and beyond. By donating to amplify Community Trust grantmaking, you ensure our ability to deploy funding where it's needed most so that nonprofits across Boulder County can continue their vital work.

What is Community Trust?

Community Trust inspires action around current and future needs countywide. As a long-standing signature program of Community Foundation Boulder County, grants awarded from Community Trust support important programs and services with priority given to those that are working toward equitable outcomes for historically marginalized populations.

Community Trust is a discretionary grantmaking fund addressing needs throughout Boulder County in the following areas: animal care and welfare, arts and culture, civic engagement, education, environment, and health and human services.

We utilize a community-driven grant review process in which volunteer members review grant applications and make funding recommendations. Grants are carefully considered by committees of volunteer reviewers who come to consensus about which organizations will receive grants.

Community Trust also follows the practices of trust-based philanthropy, striving to be respectful of the work of nonprofit organizations through a simple grant application and reporting process.

How it works?

Donors may contribute any amount toward Community Trust, and allocate the donation for “Community Trust 2024 Amplification.” That money will go toward increasing the funds distributed to Community Trust 2024 grant recipients. Contributions are encouraged by July 15, 2024. The community foundation collects 2% from each donation for administration.

How much funding is needed?

In 2024, we've seen a 20% increase in Community Trust applications. Every year, the we are able to grant around $400,000 total in Community Trust grants, but we're never able to fully meet the needs of the community.

Last year, in an effort to help support the increasing need, we launched the Community Trust amplification effort, and the community stepped up. Together, we raised just over $100,000, increasing our available funding by 25%! This year, we plan to double down with a goal of raising $200,000 in support of the important work our grantees are doing throughout Boulder County.

Please join us as we make this important investment in our community and support the work of our 2024 Community Trust grantees.
