Full-price ticket sales have climbed above even pre-recession levels and Boulder County is now home to more artists per capita than anywhere in the country outside Los Angeles and Santa Fe. Will the high cost of living allow them to stay?
Boulder County arts organizations received significantly more funding in 2015 than in years prior, with the donor categories of individuals, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and state and local government increasing their annual contributions by more than $1 million each between 2013 and 2015. These contributing sources provide an essential foundation of funding for the arts beyond ticket sales and tuition fees.
Almost twice as many Boulder County residents had jobs in the arts in 2015 compared to 2009. However, the vast majority of those jobs remained part-time and contract work.
