Boulder County arts organizations are working to diversify our vibrant arts community. Public arts festivals have grown in recent years in Boulder, Longmont, Louisville and Lafayette. The county has also encouraged public art.
Arts and culture organizations in Boulder County saw a $1 million drop in ticket sales from 2015 to 2017. A bigger drop came from “other funding sources,” causing the total for earned income for Boulder County arts and culture organizations to total just over $15.5 million in 2017 compared to $20.3 million in 2015.

Full- and part-time arts employment, which grew steadily in Boulder County between 2009 and 2015, fell off sharply in 2017. The number of contract artists, however, grew by almost 50%.

While the number of volunteers remained steady, the number of hours that they spent volunteering for Boulder County arts organizations dropped by 41% from 2015 to 2017.

Since 1989, the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has been distributing funds to arts organizations along the Front Range. SCFD funded fewer Boulder County arts organizations in 2017 than they did in 2015.
