Business Donor Spotlight: Hazel’s Beverage World

“Giving back to our community through the foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund was part of a bigger picture push to make a difference here at home.”

A Boulder institution for more than eight years, Hazel’s Beverage World – founded by Bruce Dierking, a Colorado native and CU alumnus – is committed to local philanthropy.

“When COVID-19 hit, we knew we wanted to step up to support our community,” says Hayley Boreen, Marketing Director of the upscale liquor store offering thousands of selections of beer, wine, and spirits.

Hazel’s gift of $5K to the Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund Boulder County is all the more extraordinary at a time when many businesses are navigating their own shortfalls in revenue.

“In normal times, we provide in-kind donations to local nonprofits for their events and fundraisers,” continues Hayley. “But the Coronavirus pandemic has canceled or postponed those events, so we looked for other ways to help.

“Giving back to our community through the foundation’s COVID-19 Response Fund was part of a bigger picture push to make a difference here at home. We also donated directly to the Emergency Family Assistance Association, Community Food Share, and the Colorado fund for restaurant employees — $15K all told.”

Adds Hayley, “The bottom line is, we’re still here. And we’re still committed to supporting our community during these obviously unprecedented times.

“No one knows how long the pandemic will last, but we do know that we want to help our community get through it.”
