BOULDER, Colo., June 17, 2025 — Community Foundation Boulder County today announced the appointment of Steve Klosterman, Mark Magaña, and Dr. Krishna Pattisapu to its Board of Directors. The three new board members will help guide the organization’s strategy as it continues to nurture and activate the community’s ideas, generosity and leadership to galvanize resources and support equitable solutions for all who live and work in Boulder County.Community Foundation Boulder County is excited to announce the appointment of Steve Klosterman, Mark Magaña, and Dr. Krishna Pattisapu to its Board of Directors. The three new board members will help guide the organization’s strategy as it continues to nurture and activate the community’s ideas, generosity and leadership to galvanize resources and support equitable solutions for all who live and work in Boulder County.
“Our new board members bring unique experiences and valuable expertise to our organization,” said Tatiana Hernandez, CEO of Community Foundation Boulder County. “Whether it’s Steve’s fiduciary knowledge, Mark’s national environmental experience, or Krishna’s research-informed lens on equity and inclusion, this slate of new directors adds depth and breadth to our board.”
Steven Klosterman has been a Regional Director with Halbert Hargrove since 2003. He serves as a fee only fiduciary advisor to a wide range of individual clients, including a family office and their two foundations, as well as entrepreneurs and executives.
Steve also has significant institutional experience. Steve was recently selected to serve on the Community Foundation Boulder County Investment Committee. Steve is on the Board of San Diego Foundation and completed a term as Chair on June 30, 2023. Steve is also a current member of SDF’s Investment Committee which is responsible for the management of approximately $1.6 billion in assets under management. Steve is on the Investment Committee for the American Lung Association as well. He was a founding board member of the UCLA Investment Company that oversaw the investment of UCLA’s then approximately $4 billion endowment and served a ten-year term through June 30, 2022.
An Academic All-American and Honorable Mention All-American football player at UCLA, Steve graduated with honors, earned an MBA from Stanford University and has the ACCREDITED INVESTMENT FIDUCIARY™ (AIF) designation from the University of Pittsburgh-affiliated Center for Fiduciary Studies.
Mark Magaña is the Founding President & CEO of GreenLatinos, a comunidad of Latino/a/e environmental, conservation and climate justice champions who use shared resources and collective power to advocate for their environmental justice priorities.
In his 30 years in Washington D.C., Mark worked for Latino civil rights organizations and was the first Latino to serve as senior staff at both Congressional leadership and the White House—as Senior Policy Advisor to the House Democratic Caucus Vice-Chair Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and as Special Assistant to President Clinton for Legislative Affairs at the White House. Mark also successfully founded and led the strategic consulting firm Hispanic Strategy Group for over a decade before starting GreenLatinos.
Born in Chicago and raised in Los Angeles, Mark lived in Washington, D.C. for three decades and now lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his partner and children. Mark proudly serves on the boards of the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), American Rivers Action, Green 2.0 and the Children’s Environmental Health Network (CEHN) in addition to his new role on the board of Community Foundation Boulder County.
Dr. Krishna Pattisapu is a higher education leader, scholar, consultant, and champion for equity and inclusion. In the past two decades, they have taught courses in Communication Studies at two and four-year colleges and designed programs to recruit and retain students of color and first-generation students. Their original research explores the intersections of identity, culture, and communication in educational contexts. Krishna is a servant leader who is committed to transforming higher education to increase access for students from underserved communities and to support the humans who lead the work. Their experience growing up as a queer, biracial, first-generation college student in rural Southern Illinois guides their work. Krishna holds a Ph.D. in Culture and Communication from the University of Denver and a B.S. and M.S. in Communication Studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Krishna lives in Longmont, Colorado, with their partner and pets.
The community foundation also appointed current board member Deb Gardner as vice-chair of the Board of Directors. Gardner joins the Executive Committee alongside current officers Scott Beard as chair, Patty Leslie as treasurer and Arvind Sundar as secretary. Gardner will take on these responsibilities in addition to her role as an existing member of the Board of Directors.
