Arguably among the most widely-known of the Community Foundation’s community partners is Boulder’s Daily Camera newspaper.
“We first partnered with the foundation on the Millennium Trust,” recalls Jill Stravolemos, the Daily Camera’s Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. “We were a part of the program from the inception of the logo to the full marketing strategy.
“It was an incredible experience, and it was so rewarding to see donations coming in with coupons from the newspaper.” Last Fall, Millennium Trust grants exceeded $1M.
“That movement evolved into the Culture of Giving campaign, a program we’ve sponsored every year,” Stravolemos continues. “And while the Millennium Trust was certainly our first big collaboration, we also partnered with the Community Foundation in the Ready. Set. Learn. community awareness campaign to promote the importance of early school readiness for at-risk children.”
The Daily Camera has demonstrated its support of the Community Foundation in a number of different ways: “From in-kind advertising and actual news coverage to elbow grease and cash,” says Stravolemos. “Over the years, we’ve been glad to donate countless pages of free advertising space to the foundation for the Culture of Giving campaign, the Open Door Fund, the TRENDS Report pullout in our Business Plus section, the NOVA Award, the fire and flood relief funds, and more.
“The Community Foundation has its finger on the pulse of the community. The foundation uses the research and data from the TRENDS Report – as well as its knowledgeable staff and volunteers – to truly understand the needs of our community. And then the foundation team goes to work on addressing those issues.
“In other words, as a community partner, you know you’re making a solid investment.”
Adds Stravolemos: “At the Daily Camera, we’re committed to delivering Boulder County’s news. But we also share the belief that the quality of life we enjoy in this community depends on our willingness to support it with our time and resources. Building a strong community is no small task.
“For me, personally, this has been my home for 18 years. I’m raising a family here and putting down roots. How could I not give back to the community that has welcomed and nurtured me and my family?
