Whether your child is thriving in school or just barely getting by, Boulder’s Family Learning Center provides all students and their families the support they need to achieve school, college and career readiness in a safe and welcoming environment that nurtures positive adult and peer relationships.
“I know that sounds lofty, but it’s working,” says Executive Director Brenda Lyle of the center she founded, now comprising some 12 staff members and a Board of Directors. “We help families stay together, and stay strong. All our kids graduate from high school, and most graduate from college – they go on to pursue important jobs in our community, including nurses, cardiac technicians, information technologists, bankers and more.”
Indeed, The Family Learning Center (FLC) recently completed a long-term impact study, including data from three generations of families who have participated in the center’s programs. Available in mid-June, the study’s finding will further quantify the impact of FLC programs on students, parents and the communities they live in.
These days, though, Brenda is especially excited about the addition of a new facility. “It’s been a longtime dream of ours to have a dedicated wing for our heath and wellness education programs,” she says. Scheduled for completion in July, the Health and Wellness Education Center is the result of a community-wide collaboration among donors and vendors who provide in-kind services – from Melton Design Build providing custom cabinetry to the Boulder Rotary Club’s funding of commercial-grade kitchen appliances and equipment.

“Since our groundbreaking, we also have teams of volunteers standing by to paint the exterior,” continues Brenda. “The new wing is the next step in our commitment to empower families and children in ways that, over time, produce happy, well-adjusted, educated and productive human beings.”

“That’s why we provide affordable and accessible resources and opportunities to those who need them,” Brenda adds. “For families and students limited by low wages, a lack of training, and high costs of housing, food and gas, we help them overcome those challenges.
“We believe that families form the core of our society. And a community with strong families is a vibrant community.”
