“I believe in ‘paying it forward,’” says Robyn Landry, a member of the Legacy Society of Community Foundation Boulder County. “There were many times in my life when others helped me, and I want to give back in some small way.”
Robyn – who currently enjoys divvying up her time among her handful grandchildren in Arizona and California – says she’s extremely grateful for the life she’s lived in Boulder County, which has inspired her to give back. “I also learn so much when I attend foundation-sponsored events,” she adds. “Being a member of the Legacy Society allows me to learn about what’s going on in our community – and financially help support local organizations, as well as a few international projects.
“My husband and I trust the staff of the Community Foundation, and we appreciate the guidance and advice that the foundation provides.”
Prior to becoming a Legacy Society member, Robyn was active with the Niwot Rotary Club. “One of the most fun and interesting service opportunities I’ve experienced in Boulder County was founding the Interact Club at Niwot High School in 2015.”
For about three years, Robyn sponsored Interact – a Rotary-sponsored service club that participates in volunteer and charity work, raises money for charities via fun school events, and generally works to better our community. “Several students had attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Training in Estes Park,” recalls Robyn. “I asked a few of these students whether they’d be interested in starting a club, and they were very excited and enthusiastic.
“It was my passion to get involved with high school kids to help them, in turn, become involved in both local and international service projects. With the help of my co-sponsor and the Niwot Rotary Club, I was able to launch this organization.”
Indeed, Robyn opened her home for regular Interact board meetings, and helped organize local volunteers to assist with Interact projects.
Since then, having decided to divide her time among Arizona, Eagle County, and elsewhere, Robyn “retired” from Rotary to become a member of our Legacy Society, thus continuing to live out her belief that “if good people do nothing, bad things happen.”

Donor-Advised Funds: the Community Foundation advantage
“Donor-Advised Funds allow donors to make a charitable contribution, receive an immediate tax benefit, and then recommend grants from the fund over time.”
“Making a difference in your community isn’t just in the realm of the elite,” says Boulderite Sarah Cumming, who donated her government stimulus check to Community Foundation Boulder County.
Sometimes, the name says it all: Margaret’s Hope Fund not only brought hope and meaning to its namesake, the late Margaret Jonikas, while she was alive; the Donor-Advised Fund established at the Community Foundation continues to inspire hope in her memory today. “My mother was the biggest donor to the fund,” says Joe Jonikas, […]
