Update: Colorado Endowment Funds Tax Credit stalls

In late-April, we shared with you the Community Foundation’s endorsement of Senate Bill 17-287. Since then, we’ve learned that the 2017 bill has stalled at the finish line, but we’re not giving up.

In late-April, we shared with you the Community Foundation’s endorsement of Senate Bill 17-287: the Colorado Endowment Funds Tax Credit would have created a Colorado endowment tax credit for donations of cash, property, and securities.

Since then, we’ve learned that the 2017 bill has stalled at the finish line; it was not heard by the appropriations committee to continue to a floor vote. That said, the proposed legislation – three years in the making – has been extremely well-received from a policy perspective, and has done a lot to help educate lawmakers about the work of Colorado’s nonprofit community.

And we’re not giving up. We’re aligned with the Colorado Nonprofit Association and other Colorado funders to determine next steps. We’re in it for the long haul, understanding that systemic change can sometimes take many years to bring into effect better results for our communities and our state.
