For A Spice of Life – a longtime partner of your Community Foundation – giving back is a matter of common sense.
“Our owners David Rubin and Dan Bruckner have always believed that being active in our community is an important factor in running a successful business,” says Blaire Segal, marketing and office manager of the Front Range catering and events organization. “They believe that true entrepreneurship and good business don’t happen in a vacuum, but by doing something really impactful for the world.”
Indeed, from donating the proceeds of an annual farm dinner to a nonprofit as far away as Ethiopia to also partnering with the
Lyons Community Foundation – a fund of Community Foundation Boulder County – and supporting “I Have A Dream” fundraising luncheons over the years, “We support our community through our time, energy, and doing what we do best,” continues Blaire, stressing that the Spice of Life work culture encourages employees to make a difference. “We spend a lot of time cultivating a sense of community within in our company, and we really pay attention to our role in the community as a whole.
“All our employees know that they represent the pride that we have in our community, and we encourage our full-time staff to really delve into the causes that are important to them – and to bring to us the causes and events that they want to sponsor or participate in. For example, one of our operations managers was really invested in SPAN [Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence, a Community Foundation
grantee], and introduced SPAN to our owners.”
In response to such staff-directed suggestions, A Spice of Life donates farm dinners, participates in silent auctions, offers monetary support, and more. Indeed, the full-service, award-winning company has also forged partnerships with other causes and organizations, from the March of Dimes and the MS 150 Ride that raises funds to fight Multiple Sclerosis (MS) to the Boulder Chamber and the Boulder Rotary Club.
“Everything we do represents a great confluence of the causes and community we care about,” concludes Blaire. “We believe in giving back to the community that gives to you.
“Not only do we recognize the business advantage of being connected to our community, but being involved also makes us feel good about our role in the community.”
