“I believe that local philanthropy is essential for creating a thriving and equitable community. By investing in local organizations and initiatives, we can directly support the people and causes that matter most to us. It’s a powerful way to make a tangible difference in the lives of others and to build a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone.” – CFBC Donor

Carmela Weber | Donor-Advised Fund Holder
Carmela Weber learned about the community foundation during her time serving on the board of the local nonprofit, Intercambio. “My focus had been international, and my work had me on the road several months of the year,” said Carmela. “I was less connected to my local community and local philanthropy.” As she learned about the support and mentorship the community foundation offered to local nonprofits, she gained an appreciation for the organization.
Several years ago, during the COVID-19 pandemic when uncertainty was on the rise, Carmela and her husband wanted to set aside funds to be able to continue a consistent level of support to local nonprofits as their personal finances ebbed and flowed. “I am a strong believer in grassroots support for local communities,” said Carmela. “Community Foundation Boulder County represents a highly reputable and responsive organization that allows even small donors to be supported and more effective in their giving.” Since creating her donor-advised fund Carmela has become more involved through the work of the recently formed Women’s Philanthropy Group. “I feel more connected and engaged with my local community and am learning more about it through the foundation.”
Bob and Leslie Cutler | Legacy Society Members
Bob and Leslie Cutler have been long-time supporters of Community Foundation Boulder County. Bob became involved with the foundation after a good friend and fellow investment advisor asked if he would join the foundation’s Investment Committee. Bob signed on and served from 2009 to 2014, and again starting in 2022. Leslie, who has lived in Boulder County for 53 years, wanted to support the needs of her community and recognized the community foundation as a trusted partner. “I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with, and watch the community foundation in action,” said Leslie. “After I’m gone, I want future generations to be supported by the good works of the foundation.” Bob also believes in the importance of leaving a legacy of giving. “My mother was a strong community volunteer and activist and tried to instill this in her children,” said Bob. “Thinking about the legacy in particular and my estate, I’ve committed 50% to nonprofit philanthropic organizations.” Bob and Leslie believe that in addition to thinking globally, their concerns can best be met by being passionate “neighbors” who focus on their community
The 35 Mile Foundation | Field of Interest Fund Holders
The 35 Mile Foundation is on a mission to help historically marginalized people step across the digital divide by funding digital equity initiatives and unexpected opportunities that enable affordable internet access and advance social justice. They needed a partner to help manage their fund, and their board of directors identified Community Foundation Boulder County as a strong local partner. “Given the community foundation’s status in the community, we thought running the Digital Equity Field of Interest Fund through the foundation would help set the fund up for success,” said Cassie Bair, Vice President of Broadband Services at the 35 Mile Foundation. “Our Board of Directors engaged the community foundation in order to streamline our (c)3 grantmaking efforts to maximize efficiency in giving activities.” Working with Community Foundation Boulder County allows the 35 Mile Foundation to deploy their resources, helping to create a ripple effect that they hope creates a greater impact nationally.
