Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I moved to Colorado from Houston, Texas in 2007 and have lived in Denver, Boulder, Lafayette, and now Longmont. In 2014 I planted roots in Longmont, after getting married to a Boulder native, and having a daughter, who is now in the 4th grade. We moved to Longmont to be closer to my in-laws, who happen to be high school sweethearts and graduates from the first graduating class of Niwot High School.
I have over two decades of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on fundraising, event planning and program management. My passion is advocating for social and criminal justice reform and being a voice for the underrepresented communities. In my free time, I love to hike, go see live music, play drums, cook, and spend time with my family and friends.
Why the community foundation?
I have always had a passion for working for nonprofit organizations and have worked for major institutions in Boulder County, such as the Boulder JCC, the Boulder Chamber, and the University of Colorado Boulder. I chose the Community Foundation because I wanted to be able to share my knowledge of the local nonprofit and businesses and give back to the community I love so much, while raising money for so many great causes, at an organization that maximizes community impact and is committed to inclusivity and equity.
What excites you about working in development?
I get to meet people and build long lasting relationships, listen to their stories about what makes them excited about philanthropy, and find out what causes they care about. Together, with my knowledge of the community, I can help them figure out ways to give back!
What’s the one thing you want the Boulder County community to know about our work?
The Community Foundation is not just an organization that gives money during crises. Yes, we do this, but we do so much more. We’re moving forward today with a renewed purpose and a new strategic plan. This year alone we have granted funds to over 716 nonprofit organizations, created a BIPOC Women’s Fund, and a Women’s Philanthropy Group. We are disbursing over $400K to nonprofits from our Community Trust Fund, partnering with the Boulder Chamber for our 15th cohort of Leadership Fellows Boulder County, continuing with Trends, running 15 Forever, and so much more.
What’s your favorite activity in Boulder County?
Hiking. I love being outdoors and exploring all the amazing hiking trails in the area.
Anything else you would like to add?
I absolutely love to see live music. I also picked up Djembe drumming again at the beginning of COVID and love it—it is such a great stress relief.
