Meet the Staff: Sydney Zorensky

Can you tell us about yourself?

Greetings from a Californian who took a detour through the skyscraper canyons of New York City to finally settle in Colorado. Why the move? Well, I missed having mountains in my backyard – a skyline just doesn’t cut it. I also decided to pursue my passion for social work and completed my master’s degree. When I’m not untangling the complexities of life, you can find me on the dance floor—I’ve been an avid dancer for the last few years, adding a touch of rhythm to my puzzle-solving skills. And hey, if you’ve got a pun up your sleeve, I’m all ears. The cornier, the better!

Why the community foundation?

Growing up, I’ve always understood the significance of a supportive community, fostering a genuine love for being part of something larger. What drew me to the community foundation is its dedicated commitment to an equity lens in all aspects of its work. I find it rewarding to contribute my experience from both sides of the spectrum – having worked in nonprofits providing direct service, as well as dealing with the intricacies of funding and logistics. CFBC’s rich history as a connector and advocate for the community resonates with me, and I’m eager to be a part of this impactful journey.

What excites you the most about your work as a member of the Programs team?

From the beginning, I have felt all the love, support, and warmth from the entire Programs team. I am excited to fully immerse myself in learning about each program, leveraging my extensive experience as a facilitator, with a specific emphasis on equity. My focus is on evaluating our programming, looking to the future to scale the next iteration with both Boulder County youth and working professionals. We may hands down have the best office in the building with all the natural lights for our growing home of plants.

What’s one thing you want the community to know about your work?

While I am new to the Boulder County community, I am no stranger to Colorado’s beauty. I thrive when working in community, listening, and collaborating with you. I’m here to hear your experiences, share resources, and act as a connector. Please don’t be shy I am happy to connect and meet for a coffee or join in a community event.

Which of our values most resonates with you and why? (Humanity, Trust, Collaboration)

For me, these values are interdependent. True collaboration starts with building relationships based on trust, which, in turn, begins with acknowledging our shared humanity. The emphasis on collaboration is crucial because, in this community, we all share a responsibility to address the most critical social problems together.

What’s your favorite activity in Boulder County?

I love spending summer days on the water at Union Reservoir with my dog, paddleboarding. Afterward, I indulge in fresh, warm bread and an assortment of cheeses from Cheese Importers in Longmont. Now… I am hungry!
